How To Make Your Home More You – A Guide, Part 1

how to make your home more you - a guide

Our living- and workspaces are a reflection of what is going on in our lives.

Yes, our space does not lie. It can not lie.

So we can drop all the justifications and excuses right here and now.

How liberating!

Instead let’s look at our space with the eyes of an innocent stranger, with curiosity and excitement.

Because changing our space impacts our lives more than most of us realise.

Don’t worry, this does not mean you have to turn your whole house upside down. On the contrary, I don’t recommend this approach at all as it can just be too much for your physical and emotional energy field and you end up not being able to handle this whole new frequency you have created.

So easy does it.

Step by step. Small changes done over a period of time can ignite powerful changes.  This is something we have under our control. Good news for all of us control freaks, right?

The most important step is the one we usually resist the most. At least, I am guilty of this one.

The first step is to start with a firm intention in place of what it is you want to accomplish.

Now before you throw your hands up in the air with the first excuse that pops into your pretty head, I have you covered.

Let’s just say that

Yes, you read that right. Not with the woman you are – all though for some that would actually be a first step in the right direction - but with the woman you WANT to be.

If you draw a blank right here, then I invite you to have a meeting with yourself.

Take some time, make some time NOW, not next month, to ponder this question of who you want to be, which part of yourself you want to express more.

Dig up those dreams, dust off those long held glimpses of who you could be if you only slowed down enough to give her some space and attention.

A great, fun way to do this is to grab a journal and just write down whatever comes to mind when you say:

I…(insert your name) AM A WOMAN WHO…..

Don’t overthink it, and for god’s sake don’t judge it. Just play along here. If you would like some inspiration you might like to grab the beautiful A-Diva-Mystic-Is-A-Woman-Who-pdf I created for you HERE.

Ok, now you are all set for the next step.

Next up is a home tour. Yes, you are going to play “first time”.

front door

Start at the main entrance, the door where visitors are welcomed in. Make sure you have your iPhone or some other camera ready because you are going to document what you see.

Now, show yourself around. Explain your house to yourself, room by room and shoot pictures as you go.

In my case, that would sound something like this:

“Let’s move through here quickly, I’m not proud of our entree yet as it’s still in transition from the renovation and rearranging we’ve been doing. I don’t like that it always seems to turn into a messy space and a collection space for random things that don’t have a designated home. It’s as if it didn’t really belong to the rest of the house, and I can’t seem to figure out what to do with it and how to tie it all together, so it’s not just practical but also welcoming.”

Now, that’s a ton of clues and valuable information right there!

Ok, lovely, pour yourself a refreshing glass of something – I have become quite addicted to hibiscus tea, THE most refreshing glass of pretty after having worked hard, which you just did.

Get your journal out and find yourself an inspiring place to sit down, preferably somewhere quiet.

Write down everything you have noticed on your home tour. Check your photos as reference.

Again, in my case with my entree that would look something like this:

  • Window sill needs oiling
  • Windows need cleaning and dressing, don’t like the severe, naked look anymore
  • Frustrated with our wardrobe situation
  • Door to tech-room needs painting
  • Can’t stand the mud rugs we got because of the dog!
  • Walls are too barren.
  • Why isn’t there a full size mirror down here?
  • Too much stuff standing around on the worktable
  • Hmmm…. maybe a crystal chandelier would do the trick and bring some glamour into the room? (getting excited…)

Ok, now it’s your turn. Off you go now. I’ll see you in a couple of days; that should give you enough time to tour your place and take inventory.

We will then talk about what to do with your inventory and your “projects-to-complete-list”.

Oh, and don’t forget, it’s allowed to be fun. No, let me rephrase that: It is fun!

You are playing detective of your own soul, experimenting with a new way of looking at your stuff and space. So, let your curiosity run wild and view your world through the eyes of the innocent.

Talk soon, Lovely.

Oh, any questions that pop up or thoughts you would like to share are welcome down below in the comment box or on my Facebook page, which is right over HERE: If you prefer to tweet you can catch me HERE:
